Manhunt underway for suspect in Columbia Heights killing

Police are searching for a suspect after a 31-year-old man was killed in Columbia Heights early Thursday morning.

Columbia Heights police were called to a disturbance in the 1000 block of 41st Avenue Northeast about 4:30 a.m. and found a man in an apartment who died violently, according to the Anoka County sheriff’s office. The victim’s identity has not been released, but his last known address was in St. Louis Park.

The sheriff’s office said occupants of the apartment fled before police arrived. Law enforcement is seeking a suspect described as a 5-foot-10-inch tall black male, mid 30s, about 220 pounds with a shaved head and slight beard. The suspect goes by the nickname “Ox” or “Occ” and was possibly driving a silver midsize vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

He should be considered dangerous, and if members of the public know his identity or whereabouts, they should call the sheriff’s office at 763-427-1212.
