Charges were dropped against a woman accused of helping her boyfriend evade police in a fatal shooting case after the man was acquitted at trial.
The Ramsey County Attorney’s office Monday dismissed two felony counts of aiding an offender against Gypsy Halla Baker. The decision came weeks after a jury acquitted her boyfriend, Brandon D’Angelo Alexander, of murder charges he faced in the death of 19-year-old Tyshawn Hill.
Alexander, 23, was accused of shooting and killing the Chicago teen at a party in the 2400 block of Youngman Avenue on July 27, 2016, in a fit of anger set in motion when Alexander got ejected from the party.
His attorneys argued during his April trial that authorities had pinned the Highland Park homicide on the wrong guy.
Halla was accused of helping Alexander flee the scene of the shooting and lying to police.
“Because the jury acquitted Brandon Alexander at trial, it became necessary to evaluate the likelihood of a conviction beyond a reasonable doubt against Gypsy Halla Baker,” a spokesman for the Ramsey County attorney’s office said. “We determined that dismissal of the charges against Baker was the right thing to do in light of all the circumstances.”
