A 14-year-old boy was wounded in a shooting in St. Paul’s Payne-Phalen neighborhood on Sunday night.
The teen was playing basketball with other young people at the outdoor basketball court at Farnsworth Aerospace School, 1000 Walsh St., when two cars pulled up at about 9 p.m.
People in the cars and on the basketball court exchanged words, and the young people on the court started running away, said Sgt. Mike Ernster, a St. Paul police spokesman. The cars followed them.
The 14-year-old was running through yards in the 700 block of East Rose Avenue when shots were fired and he was struck in the leg and back, Ernster said. Officers treated him until paramedics arrived, and they took him to Regions Hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, according to police.
No one has been arrested and police are investigating the motive, Ernster said.
