A student in the midst of a mental health crisis assaulted three St. Paul high school staff members, leaving them with minor injuries, according to police. They were transported to a medical facility for treatment.
Police were called to Johnson High School at 10 a.m. Monday about a student in emotional distress, and paramedics transported him to the hospital, said Steve Linders, a St. Paul police spokesman.
Officers were then notified the student had assaulted three staff members — one had been punched in the head, one thrown to the ground and kicked, and one grabbed by the neck, according to Linders, who said the student was not arrested.
The injuries occurred as staff members attended to the student who was in crisis, said Jerry Skelly, a St. Paul Public Schools spokesman.
“Sadly, this was an unfortunate situation for both the student and the staff,” Skelly said in a statement Friday. “Maintaining a safe learning environment for students and staff is always a top priority for St. Paul Public Schools.”
