A Stearns County sheriff’s deputy shot and wounded a St. Cloud man suspected of a possible assault Monday night.
Authorities were investigating the assault at a home on the 7000 block of Northwood Lane in St. Cloud shortly before midnight. After knocking on the front door, an armed man broke out of a window in the back of the house, according to the preliminary investigation.
The deputy fired his gun and two officers also Tasered the man while apprehending him. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being shot and was taken by ambulance to St. Cloud Hospital where his injuries were being treated.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension personnel recovered a handgun at the scene. The preliminary investigation states “evidence is consistent with the subject’s weapon being fired.”
The deputy and four St. Cloud police officers are on standard administrative leave. Neither law enforcement agency uses body cameras.
The BCA will provide additional information on the incident after an initial round of interviews.
