Caught driving drunk for the eighth time, a St. Paul man faces familiar charges.

Lewis Wylie, 50, of St. Paul has been charged with four gross misdemeanor counts related to drunk driving. Records show he has seven prior DWIs dating back to 1986.

On Nov. 2, at 1:54 a.m., a state trooper stopped Wylie, who was driving a blue Ford Explorer near Hamline and St. Anthony streets in St. Paul.

Wylie smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot watery eyes and failed field sobriety tests, the police report said. A breathalyzer test showed his alcohol level at .09. The legal blood-alcohol level in Minnesota is .08.

Records show that his driving privileges had been canceled and his license carries a no use restriction for alcohol.

If convicted, each misdemeanor carries a penalty of up to $3,000 in fines or up to one year in prison.
