Gary Masterman, the former fire chief who swindled $15,000 from a youth sports program, has been sentenced to 500 hours of community service.
In addition, Masterman will pay a $750 fine and serve five years’ probation, according to the sentence set Thursday in Washington County District Court.
Masterman, 64, is a former Oakdale Fire Chief and recently served as chairman of the Oakdale Parks and Recreation Commission.
The various crimes — including five counts of theft-by-swindle — happened between December 2015 and February 2017. He was charged in July.
Masterman was the charity gambling manager of the Oakdale Athletic Association, a nonprofit that manages sporting events for young athletes.
According to court documents, Masterman allegedly gave himself an unauthorized salary increase and paid himself for work he did not do, including selling pull-tabs and working at bingo fundraisers.
In addition, he arranged to pay a salary to his wife, who was not an employee.
Eric Delacy, the athletic association’s president, said last month that Masterman had paid back the money.
