Two people were shot and wounded, one seriously, in apparently unrelated cases in St. Paul on Sunday.

Police called at 10:40 p.m. to the 1400 block of Virginia Street in the North End found bullet casings. As they investigated that area, a man with a gunshot wound to the chest was dropped off at Regions Hospital, said Sgt. Mike Ernster, a St. Paul police spokesman.

A witness reported seeing a male shooting a gun, getting into a vehicle and speeding off. The 24-year-old who was shot was in stable condition Monday, according to police.

Police also are investigating whether two gun cases on the West Side are related to the North End case.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired on Stevens Street, near Bellows Street, just after 3 p.m. Sunday. There were casings in the street and police were told a group of four boys, estimated to be 14 to 15 years old, were running between houses afterward, Ernster said. It was unknown if they were connected to the incident.

At 3:40 p.m., shots were fired about six blocks away at Sidney and Waseca streets. Soon after, a 16-year-old with a graze wound to his head was brought to Regions in a vehicle similar to one described as being at the scene, Ernster said.

Police were told a male passenger in a black pick-up truck was seen sitting in the window, firing over the vehicle and toward a group of people.

No arrests were made in either case.
