On Sunday morning, Devon L. Goode posted a selfie on Snapschat of him cuddling his 1-year-old daughter close to his face.

Hours later, he was killed in a shooting in St. Paul’s Dayton’s Bluff area.

Friends say Devon L. Goode, 21, who was known as Dejuan, posted this photo of himself with his 1-year-old daughter on Snapchat on the morning of Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018. He was fatally shot that afternoon. (Courtesy photo)

“All he cared about was his daughter,” said Makala Lovee, who thought of the 21-year-old Goode as her brother. Other friends also remembered Goode on Monday as being dedicated to his daughter.

Police continue to investigate the homicide of Goode, whose first name is spelled Devan in some public records and who friends referred to as Dejuan. No one has been arrested.

On Sunday afternoon, Goode and some friends, including Shemar Adams, were just down the road from Harding High School for a short time.

Adams said he was with Goode on Sixth Street, near Etna Street, until about 4:10 p.m. and then they went their separate ways.

But Goode, of St. Paul, apparently returned to the area because officers were called to the block at 4:30 p.m. on a report of shots fired. Officers found Goode had been shot and paramedics pronounced him dead.

Adams, who went to Benjamin E. Mays School with Goode and played basketball with him at the Jimmy Lee Recreation Center when they were kids, said he has no idea why his friend was killed.

“It hurts so much,” said Adams, who also attended Johnson High School with Goode. “Out of everybody, Devon’s just a good person. He likes to laugh, likes to joke around. He’d do anything for his daughter.”

Police are asking anyone with information to call the homicide unit at 651-266-5650.
