GILBERT, Minn. — A Fargo, N.D., man has been arrested as a suspect in a hit-and-run crash that killed an 85-year-old Iron Range woman Wednesday, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.
Jeffrey L. Airhart, 57, was arrested Thursday morning by Gilbert police after they found the vehicle suspected in the crash, a 2000 Chrysler Town and Country minivan, the State Patrol reported.
According to the State Patrol report, Florence Jean Mannelin of Makinen was walking across the 100 block of Broadway Avenue in Gilbert at about 6:46 p.m. Wednesday when she was hit by a vehicle. The vehicle didn’t stop and continued northbound on Broadway.
Mannelin was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with fatal injuries.
Airhart did not appear to have been injured in the crash, the report said.
Meanwhile, in southwestern Minnesota, authorities have identified a 98-year-old pedestrian killed Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of the St. James hospital.
According to the State Patrol, David Dick of St. James was crossing in front of a dump truck at about 1:30 p.m. when the truck moved forward after unloading asphalt.
The truck driver, identified as Scott Lewis, 49, of Good Thunder, wasn’t injured.
The incident remains under investigation.
